Every Time A Drummer Dies

Every Time I Die's drummer Mike Novak has quit the band, which means metalcore/punk drummers everywhere: prepare your audition tapes! Novak had the following to say about his departure from the band:

"I have officially quit Every Time I Die due to personal conflicts. I feel like im getting myself out of an uncomfortable, unhealthy situation, and it's for the best for everyone, and I'm ready to move on with my life. I still plan to play and be involved in music and am looking for a new project to pursue. This is a new exciting chapter in my life and hope anyone who has enjoyed me as a person/drummer in this band for the last 11 years, sticks with me for whatever endeavor the future brings me. Thanks to all the ETID fans throughout the years."

The End Is A Game For Megadeth

Megadeth announced that their upcoming record will be titled "Endgame." It will be the band's 12th studio album and is due out in September through Roadrunner Records.

Dave Mustaine chad this to say:

"Thematically, I've never been known to be a silent bystander in a world that needs our participation. As more is revealed about our former President's legacy, a little-known yet staggeringly frightening document which was signed into law, named 'Endgame', has been uncovered. The album 'Endgame' is the most energetic music offering I have penned in over a decade and is far more believable than knowing someone signed 'Endgame' — the document — into law. The album is also the perfect 'ass-kicking' music to listen to once you are done reading the aforementioned document!"

New Music: The Mars Volta

While doing my DJ thing at 89.5 FM WSOU I played the new single "Cotopaxi" off The Mars Volta's new album Octahedron due out June 23 on Warner Bros. Records and I give it a thumbs up. The album looks promising.

Ben Weinman Blogs About Party Smasher/ Upcoming Album

And now for the recent Dillinger Escape Plan news in the words of Benjamin Weinman (manager/guitarist/only original member left), found on the MySpace blog for the band today:

"We, recently, as some of you may have seen, announced our new album title....."OPTION PARALYSIS". GET FUCKING EXCITED. We are getting together all of our full demos, and we'll be hitting the studio for real to lay down actual tracks in a month and a half to two months or so."

"ALSO....we have announced that we are creating an umbrella known as PARTY SMASHER INC. that we will be putting out all of our future endeavors under. Our records, our shirts, our whatever the fucks....all of it is from now on coming out under that moniker. You'll see that on there no matter where or what it is, and that's how you'll know if something you are getting is really an official DEP release and not a copy, like on the limited shirts and limited other things that we are gonna be doing. That will be on there, and if you don't see it, on EBAY or something, it's not legit."

Also in the post, Weinman linked this video of Dillinger jamming to "Wish" with Nine Inch Nails at Bonarroo during their last U.S. performance EVER:

Dillinger Escape Plan Are Party Smashers

Found on Blabbermouth.net:

THE DILLINGER ESCAPE PLAN recently inked a deal with Season Of Mist Records. The band's fourth studio album, Option Paralysis", will be released in early 2010 in collaboration with the band's brand new label.

According to guitarist Ben Weinman, the band's new "official creative umbrella" for all things THE DILLINGER ESCAPE PLAN has been dubbed Party Smasher Inc. He states, "After over a decade of touring and making music we have realized that there is the right way of doing things, the wrong way of doing things, and then the DILLINGER way of doing things. Party Smasher Inc. will represent our collected efforts on all things DILLINGER-related."

Music Pick: Volbeat

My current obsession: Volbeat

This Danish rock band is a blend of country, rock 'n roll, and metal. Their front man Michael Poulsen has distinctive, soaring baritone vocals that pierce speak to the soul while the heavy guitar riffs keep the music grounded. Sample their sound with the single "Radio Girl" below off their 2007 release Rock The Rebel/Metal The Devil on Mascot Records. If you dig that tune, be sure to check out "Find That Soul" off Guitar Gangsters & Cadillac Blood, released September 1 2008.

Nike Pops Out New Show For Record Label

Nike announced that it will be releasing a shoe inspired by the Sub Pop record label in July on their Nike SB Blazer Elite line. As far as I know, this is the first shoe to be inspired by a record label, rather than a band. The shoe looks nothing like the Sub Pop black and white logo, and isn't reminscent of the grunge bands they are famous for signing like Nirvana, Soundgarden, and Mudhoney. Their newer acts like the Postal Service, Fleet Foxes, and The Shins don't seem well represented in the shoe either. It looks neither grungy nor indie. In fact, it just looks like a shoe. If anyone sees the connection, please let me know.

Show Review: Dillinger Escape Plan

The Dillinger Escape plan played the First Unitarian Church in Philadelphia as their second gig on their mini-tour to Bonnarroo Wednesday night, transforming the dimly lit basement into a sauna. The set included songs like "Sugar Coated Sour," "Baby's First Coffin, "Fix Your Face," "Milk Lizard," "Lurch," "Fix Your Face," "Horse Hunter" among others. The set ended with a rare performance of "Mouth of Ghosts" (see last photo).

The Dillinger Escape Plan have nine more North American shows scheduled before a brief tour of Europe in the month of July. The band's replacement for their last guitar tech who left abruptly to tour with Metro Station seemed does not seem quite as fun nor as dynamic as Asian Steve. Ben Weinman said, "I thought I taught him better" when asked about the situation.

New Music: Portugal. The Man

Portugal. The Man is offering a sneak preview of their upcoming album The Satanic Satanist to the public. The track is called "The Sun" and even I haven't heard it yet, save for this clip. The album is due out July 21 on the band's on label Approaching AIRBalloons. Last month I was granted a sneak peek of three songs off the album, called "People Say," "Everyone Is Golden" and "Do You." John Gourley calls the new album a psychadelic infusion of his favorite artists like Pink Floyd, Mars Volta, and Led Zeppelin. From what I heard, expect a lot more cheer and indie rock versus the experimental style they usually employ.

Portugal. The Man will be performing at Bonarroo on June 11, will hit Europe in July, and will be back to take on Lollapalooza August 7-8 in Chicago, IL.

Against Me! Turns Against Drummer

Florida punk rockers Against me! Announced the departure of their drummer Warren Oakes on their MySpace yesterday. According to front man Tom Gabel's blog, the band (minus Warren) decided collectively that they no longer wanted Oakes in the band as his "heart hasn't been in this for a while now." Oakes has been the drummer for Against Me! ever since 2001 and appeared on their debut album Reinventing Axl Rose. The now ex-drummer took the high road and issued the following statement through the band:

"I've spent the past 8 years making beautiful music with my best friends and sharing it with amazing people all over the world. I've had the honor and privilege of traveling with the most dedicated road dogs on the planet and sharing the stage with the greatest bands. I have been embraced by so many with such graciousness and hospitality and love. Thank you so much to everyone who helped make the dream a reality, especially Tom, James and Andrew. I've had the time of my life, and I owe it all to you."

In the announcement of Oakes's termination from the band, Against Me! said that they "don’t rule out the possibility of some day playing music together again," however, "For now the four of us feel like this is the best decision to make."

Oakes recently opened a Mexican Restaurant named “Boca Fiesta” in Gainesville, FL which will probably keep him busy for a while.

Video Premiere: MGMT

MGMT just released their official video for the single "Kids" off of Oracular Spectacular as seen above. True to MGMT's style, the video is completely messed up, trippy, and makes you wonder, "Is that legal?" The band assures viewers that no children were harmed in the making of the video.

Travis Barker and DJ AM are treating the Twitterverse with a free download of the mix tape Fix Your Face: Vol. 2 Coachella in exchange for a single tweet. Twitter users head here to get your free download, and if you're not on Twitter you should probably jump on the band wagon! Plus, you get free stuff such as this download, and artists like Dave Navarro, Trent Reznor, and numerous bands and labels occasionally give out free tickets to their shows using the social messaging site.
